The actual process of turning grapes into wine really isn’t as simple as just squashing them and tossing them into the fermentation vessel. However, that doesn't mean you can't become an expert in no time. Here you can learn how to make wine at home!
The first step in winemaking is to choose what kind of wine you wish to create. If you desire a red wine you will want to leave the skin on the grapes, and if white wine is more to your liking you will want to remove the skin beforehand.
Begin by smashing and chopping the grapes. Next, be sure to add sulfites to the mashed grapes to prevent dangerous microorganisms from forming. Yeast should be mixed in as well because it conducts the fermentation process. Throw in some sugar for the yeast to feed off of, and if you like your wine to have a bit of a bite, add tannic acid. Finally pour some tap water into the concoction.
It is as easy as that. A lot of the work in wine making is just being patient and allowing the wine to come to the perfect point. You can learn all kinds of tricks to get your wine to taste exactly the way you want it. If you use a barrel than the wine will take on the flavor of the wood used to make that barrel. You can also get a variety of berry flavors and sugar contents. Do a little reading and then you are ready to start experimenting. Why wait. Start today.
